KITCHENER, Ontario – The East District of Lutheran Church–Canada reelected President Paul Zabel to another three year term on May 4, 2015 in Kitchener, Ontario. He was first elected to serve the District as President in 2009.
President Zabel was reelected on the first ballot, receiving 64 votes (with 58 required to declare him elected). Other nominees received votes as follows: Rev. Marvin Bublitz 5; Rev. Mark Danielson 1; Rev. Brian Dunlop 2; Rev. Donald Schieman 10; and Rev. Timothy Teuscher 33.
Also on May 4, the East District elected Rev. Timothy Teuscher to serve as First Vice President and Rev. Marvin Bublitz to serve as Second Vice President. Lois Griffin was elected as secretary.
The East District is meeting in convention May 3-6 in Kitchener, Ontario under the theme “God’s Will for Us: Rejoice Always, Pray without Ceasing, and Give Thanks in all Circumstances” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).
The opening worship service was held the evening of May 3 at Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Gajdos serving as liturgist and officiant. Lutheran Church–Canada President Robert Bugbee served as preacher for the event, and Revs. Roger Winger, Andy Schroth, Richard Frey, and East District President Paul Zabel assisted at communion and as lectors. Special music was provided by Paul Walrath on organ, Joshua Gajdos and Benjamin Winger as trumpeters, and Rev. Dave Horn on guitar. The congregation was also blessed by the music of the KW Lutheran Chamber Choir (conducted by Heidi Gallas) and a handbell choir composed of Historic St. Paul’s Lutheran members and friends. Other members of Historic St. Paul’s served in a variety of ways during the service as well.
