CANADA – Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) is hosting a wine and cheese reception and meet-and-greet with Bishop Munib A. Younan of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land.
Bishop Younan, who also serves as President of the Lutheran World Federation, will address the subjects of peace-building and humanitarian work in some of the most conflicted areas of the world, including the Holy Land, Syria, Iraq, and South Sudan.
There is no charge for admission, but a free-will offering will be taken to support to the Augusta Victoria Hospital in East Jerusalem. This hospital, which is supported by CLWR, is a Lutheran ministry that provides high-quality, specialized care for Palestinians regardless of their ability to pay for treatment. The hospital has taken an important role in treating Gaza civilians injured in the conflict between Israel and Hamas, and they are currently fundraising to create an Elder Care Pavilion to provide long-term or palliative care for elderly patients.
An Ottawa reception will take place October 21, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel (The Summit Room, 100 Kent Street, Ottawa). A Winnipeg reception will take place October 24, from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Inn at the Forks (Forks Ballroom, 75 Forks Market Road, Winnipeg).
Motivated by Christ’s love, CLWR and Lutheran Church–Canada (LCC) work in effective partnership to improve day-to-day life and provide opportunity for long-term sustainability in communities around the globe. Within Canada, CLWR assists Lutheran communities engaged in refugee resettlement. Through CLWR, LCC members provide food, shelter, health care, education, and other support to areas in conflict around the world.
